Hey there! I’m Elisa, a 20-year-old Belgian woman who took the leap to move to a completely different country. Yes, you heard that right! I left behind everything I knew and loved to seek new opportunities and challenges. So I packed my bags, and boy, was it worth it!!
Moving abroad for professional opportunities has become a hot trend among young graduates and students, and I’m proud to say that I’m one of them. There’s nothing quite like the thrill of immersing yourself in a new culture and seeing the world from a different perspective.
But why Canada, you may ask? Well, let me tell you, it’s one of the most amazing places on earth! The country’s dynamic business environment and potential for career advancement make it a top destination for international students and graduates.
As a student in international business myself, I knew that it was important for me to explore new cultures and expand my horizons. Growing up with two different cultures from the country I was raised in gave me an idea of what it was like to experience different ways of life. But, I wanted even more and decided to be one of those audacious students moving out for opportunities.
Now, let me tell you about my adventure here! After a few flights cancelation and flights delays, I finally made it to Canada. But the adventures was only just beginning. From a visa issue, where I had to have a quick trip outside the Canadian’s territory to solve that problem, to a phone theft during my second week here… Let me tell you, the first few weeks were challenging! On top of that, I had to adjust to a new way of life, new surroundings, and new people. But, that didn’t stopped me, I was determined to make the most of my time in Canada. I wanted to learn more about the country’s business culture and see how it is compared to the European one!
What I found most interesting was that Canada is a melting pot of cultures. From the customs and traditions to the delicious food, there was so much to explore and learn from. And let me tell you, the kindness of the Canadian people is not a myth! From strangers on the street to my colleagues, everyone was warm and welcoming. It made the transition so much easier.
Living in a different country has forced me to step outside of my comfort zone and face new challenges. And you know what? I knew I was resourceful but I never imagine that I would be that much! And it’s given me a sense of independence that I never knew I had. I feel like I’ve grown so much as a person and I’ve gained a whole new perspective on life.
So, if you’re thinking about making a similar move, let me encourage you to take the leap. Yes, it can be scary, but trust me, the rewards are worth it. You’ll gain a new perspective on life, learn new things about yourself, and make memories that will last a lifetime.
